About PoolCalc Tools
Honest pool and spa cost estimates — built so you can budget ownership, maintenance, and heating before the first bill surprises you.
Who We Are
PoolCalc Tools is published by Cross Digital Ventures LLC, a small business based in Kansas City, Missouri, and owned and operated by Bobby Cross. We build free consumer cost calculators for pool and spa ownership because the true annual cost of a pool is one of the most underestimated numbers in home ownership. You can reach a real person anytime through our Contact page.
Why We Built This Site
A pool looks like a one-time purchase but it's really an ongoing operating cost. The installation price is visible; what most buyers don't see until they own one is that chemicals, equipment, heating, cleaning service, and repairs run $3,000–$6,000 per year on top of that — and heating alone can add $1,200–$4,000 per season depending on your climate and system type. We built PoolCalc Tools so buyers and current pool owners can put a realistic number on each cost category before it hits the credit card. Whether you're evaluating a new pool purchase, choosing between gas and heat pump heating, or budgeting a hot tub, our calculators give you the full picture.
How Our Estimates Are Built
Every calculator on this site uses cost ranges grounded in real-world data — industry chemical pricing, regional utility rates for heating calculations, equipment replacement cost surveys, and pool service company rate data. For heating tools, we model the actual physics: pool surface area, desired temperature rise, local climate degree-days, and the efficiency differences between gas heaters, electric heat pumps, and solar covers. For maintenance tools, we account for pool size, bather load, and chemical consumption. The outputs are ranges because a pool in Phoenix and a pool in Minneapolis have wildly different heating costs, and chemical usage varies with usage patterns and water chemistry. Use the low end of our ranges for a best-case budget and the high end as your planning ceiling.
What PoolCalc Tools Is Not
We are not a pool contractor, a chemical supplier, or a service company. We do not sell pool services or route your information to any vendor. The calculators run entirely in your browser — we never see or store your inputs. When we link to pool supplies and equipment in our affiliate sections, we earn a small commission on qualifying purchases, which is what keeps the calculators free.
Our Promise
We will keep these calculators free, keep the cost assumptions current, and keep the math transparent. If you spot an estimate that looks off, tell us — utility and chemical prices shift and we update the tools when they do.
